Jon Bernthal has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe! A new batch of Daredevil: Born Again set photos gives fans their first look at Bernthal’s return as The Punisher.
Jon Bernthal has been rather elusive as The Punisher these last few months. While it was all but confirmed he would return in Daredevil: Born Again, the actor refused to acknowledge his role aside from some cryptic hints. However, it seems all the pretense is no more, with set photos revealing Bernthal’s grand debut in the MCU.
Jon Bernthal’s costume as The Punisher looks torn almost exactly from his Netflix series. Additionally, it seems fans will be seeing Frank Castle team up with the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in Daredevil: Born Again. It’s unclear what villain they’ll be working together to take down in the MCU, however, with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Wilson Bethel’s Daredevil both absent from the photos.
Jon Bernthal’s Role In the MCU’s Future
Given The Punisher is one of Marvel’s biggest street-level heroes, it would only make sense for Jon Bernthal to have a prominent role in the MCU going forward. However, there’s been no official confirmation that Bernthal will actually return to the role, with these set photos being the closest fans have gotten.
Even a Disney Plus show on The Punisher may be off the table. Jon Bernthal is set to play a large role in Daredevil: Born Again, with rumors teasing his own subplot throughout the season. This could make his own series redundant, especially with Marvel trying to cut back on MCU content. Though given how perfect Bernthal is for the role, Marvel fans will likely be begging for his show to return once this new series drops!
