‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Wilson Bethel Comments On Losing ‘Captain America’ To Chris Evans

Could Wilson Bethel have been our Captain America? The Daredevil: Born Again star looks back on losing out on the iconic role to Chris Evans.

Wilson Bethel stole the hearts and minds of fans as Benjamin Poindexter in Daredevil season 3. Now the actor is set to make his grand debut in the MCU as Bullseye with Daredevil: Born Again. However, he may have made an appearance in the franchise much sooner than most know. Originally, Bethel was up for the role of Captain America alongside Chris Evans.

While the role of Captain America would ultimately go to Chris Evans, it seems Wilson Bethel was very far into the audition process before being rejected, even going so far as to put on the iconic suit. The Daredevil: Born Again actor spoke on it being one of the hardest hits of his career at the time, even though he would eventually come to join the MCU in a different role.

“The hardest hit I took was, I came very close to being cast as Captain America,” Bethel explained at Fan Expo in San Francisco. “I went through multiple rounds of screen testing, and the suit felt incredible. Yeah [when asked if he has pictures]. There were all these things that were happening that made me feel like I was getting the part. And then I remember my agent calling me one day, and they’re like, ‘No, actually, they offered it to Chris Evans’ or whatever.”

Wilson Bethel’s Future In The MCU

Even though it’s a shame that Wilson Bethel lost out on the role of the lifetime, it seems things worked out for the best. Chris Evans was able to lead the MCU as Captain America for many years before stepping back from the franchise. In contrast, Wilson Bethel is only just getting started with his tenure in the franchise, making his proper debut as Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Again after a short tease in the series’ last installment.

Given how prevalent of a villain is in Marvel Comics, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Wilson Bethel appear as Bullseye in other MCU projects following Daredevil: Born Again. Chris Evans made a surprisingly scant number of appearances as Captain America, playing the role in only eight films, with nine projects featuring a small cameo. This is something that can easily be surpassed by one of the universe’s most infamous street level villains, if the timing is right!
