Daredevil had a tight budget!

It’s always about the budget, baby! The former Daredevil showrunner reveals why the hero couldn’t reach his full potential in the iconic Netflix series.

With Daredevil officially back with his own series in the MCU, fans have been quick to draw comparisons between the new slate of projects and the Netflix series. For the most part, the latter seems to come out on top with most discussions. However, there is one part of the conversation that seems to land on the side of the new age: the character’s acrobatics.

Daredevil has become exponentially more flexible following his introduction into the MCU. The first episode of his new series had him swinging around like a spider-monkey (or should we say…a Spider-Man) across the rooftops of New York. With how fun these segments have been, fans have been left wondering why the universally beloved Netflix show didn’t even take a crack at similar feats.

Daredevil Showrunner Speaks Out On MCU Changes

The former showrunner of the Netflix Daredevil series, Steven DeKnight, actually weighed in on this conversation. The helmer explained that the only thing holding them back from recreating the flips and tricks seen in the MCU was the budget. However, he would take care to point out that this wasn’t a knock on Netflix, but rather the generally smaller budgets for television at the time.

“It’s purely a financial issue,” DeKnight explained on social media. “On the Netflix show, we didn’t have the money to do this. If we had, we would have.”

“Just to be clear, in no way, shape, or form were my comments regarding Daredevil a knock against Netflix. It was merely explaining that I would have used CGI to enhance the fights like in Born Again if the budget had been larger,” DeKnight continued in a subsequent thread. “That’s not to say we didn’t have the money to make the show we wanted to make. It was tight, but it always is. Also it’s not a comment on Born Again. I haven’t had the chance to see it yet, but have loved the clips that I have. Looking forward to it.”

This isn’t the first time someone from the Netflix incarnation of Daredevil has spoken out on the budget given to them to work on the series. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos recently explained that working on a Marvel property is very different from working directly in the MCU. So while it’s a shame that fans couldn’t see Daredevil at his peak in the series, one can’t say that the show itself isn’t peak in it of itself.

Daredevil: Born Again will release in March 4, 2025 on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
