Daredevil: Born Again is set to bring Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock adventures into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the cancellation of his Netflix series. Chris Brewster, who served as a stuntman on the original series, has taken aim at the upcoming Disney Plus adaptation, claiming Marvel wants it to be nothing like the Netflix show.
Many fans of Netflix’s Daredevil have been worried that the MCU’s Born Again series on Disney Plus will be unable to capture the magic that made the original so special, despite Charlie Cox returning to the titular role of Matt Murdock. While his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law was enough to set most viewers at ease, stuntman Chris Brewster warns that Disney wants the new series to be “nothing like” the original Netflix show:
“They really, truly don’t want it to be anything like the Marvel Netflix Daredevil,” Brewster claims on the Ikuzo Unscripted podcast. “So, nobody that worked on the original series, other than the cast that they’re bringing back, is coming back. It’s probably too late to change it now. Marvel has told every person working on that show that they don’t want ‘Born Again’ to look anything like the Netflix Daredevil series. Trust me, not only did I work on the show, I was one of the biggest fans of the show.”
Even though Charlie Cox will return as Matt Murdock, Chris Brewster is right in the sense that much of a show’s tone and feel is created by the crew that works on it. With Disney keeping most of the original crew away from Daredevil: Born Again, the new Disney Plus series is certainly set to have a much different feel than its Netflix counterpart. Whether that serves as a fresh take on the character for fans to enjoy or a massive misstep in the MCU’s adaptation of the character, however, is yet to be seen.
What to expect from the new Daredevil series
Little is known of Daredevil: Born Again, with plot details being kept under wraps. Jon Bernthal, Sandrine Holt, Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James and Michael Gaston are set to appear in the series opposite Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. Matt Corman and Chris Ord are writing and executive producing for Marvel.
Daredevil: Born Again is currently scheduled to premiere in Spring 2024 on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
