Secret Invasion is a series about Nick Fury finding his place in a world he had abandoned to the Skrulls for so long. Samuel L. Jackson teases a confrontation with Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the absence of Nick Fury, Phase 4 of the MCU has set up Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as the one mortal tying together a world of gods and super soldiers. While Nick Fury has returned, Samuel L. Jackson has revealed a conversation he had with Dreyfus that teases a conflict between the two in a future project:
“I’ve talked to her about it already because she did a film with my wife that’s coming out very soon,” Jackson told The Wrap. “She was sitting right behind me at the Oscars. So she kept poking me, saying, ‘We’re gonna fight, we’re gonna fight.’ So, I guess she already knows something I don’t know. But she’s just starting something anyway.”
It’s unclear what project Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Nick Fury would come to blows in if even Samuel L. Jackson is unaware of it. With the production of Thunderbolts shut down by the WGA strike, it’s unlikely Jackson wouldn’t be aware of a role in the project. It’s also likely that Julia Louis-Dreyfus was just teasing her friend, and truly has no idea if the two characters will ever come to blows. Though given the MCU has entered the Multiverse Saga, truly anything is possible.
How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu . The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.
The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
