Thunderbolts is set to feature the return of old villains in a brand new role for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, one of the film’s stars, David Harbour, confirms that fans may have to wait a bit longer due to filming delays.

Thunderbolts has already had a rocky production. From controversy about the film’s over-abundance of Super Soldiers in its cast to massive rewrites by the new behind-the-scenes team, Marvel fans began to worry about the upcoming project. It’s now been confirmed by David Harbour, who’ll return as Red Guardian in the film, that filming for the project has been delayed:

While David Harbour himself didn’t provide a reason for the Thunderbolts delay, it’s almost certainly caused by the WGA Writer’s Strike. The film now follows in the footsteps of Blade, which also shut down production recently due to the strike. Sadly for fans, it doesn’t seem as though the strike will be ending soon, as there hasn’t been word on the studios’ AMPTP organization coming back to meet the writers’ terms. Only time will tell how long it’ll take for the strike to end and for Thunderbolts to continue production.

Who is attached to the Thunderbolts movie?

During Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation in July, it was revealed that Jake Schreier would direct the upcoming Thunderbolts project. Eric Pearson, the writer for Black Widow, had previously written a draft of the script.

Thunderbolts features a star-studded cast, including Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as the Ghost, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross. Ayo Edebir and Steven Yeun are also on board in undisclosed roles.

Thunderbolts is currently set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
