The truth always comes!

Many have given up hope that the “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad will ever be released. However, Suicide Squad director David Ayer is confident something is going to happen.

For many, David Ayer’s “Ayer Cut” of his Suicide Squad exists as a footnote to the larger SnyderVerse saga. However, for Ayer himself, the fight is very real. When asked about the potential release of his “Ayer Cut” by TotalFilm, the director revealed he’s hopeful the film will be released and dispel the narratives pushed by the studio:

“I think so,” Ayer explains. “I’m going to be hopeful. You know, there are a lot of people that are invested in certain narratives that don’t want it to see the light of day. So there’s an immense political headwind against it, because if that cut were made public, the cowardliness and the whole just general shittiness of how the film’s been treated, and how the actors have had this great work that they’d done taken away”

“That narrative blows up once people see the movie,” The director finished. “But it’s coming. Something’s going to happen. Something’s going to be revealed. The truth always comes out. It always comes out.”

Suicide Squad stands as a historical example of the dangers of corporate interference with art. The film was a flop precisely because it tried to ride the coattails of Marvel instead of letting David Ayer fulfill his vision. Hopefully one day the director’s “Ayer Cut” will finally see the light of day.

Is A David Ayer cut of Suicide Squad coming?

David Ayer’s journey with Suicide Squad has been a topic of discussion for a while now, primarily due to the perceived chasm between his original intentions and the end product that hit theaters. Through various interactions, Ayer has voiced his disappointment and frustrations regarding the radical shifts in the movie’s narrative and tone, influenced by studio decisions.

It’s currently unknown when or if the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad will be released. If it does, it will likely be categorized under the “Elseworlds” banner of films, which includes any projects not canon to the main DC Universe being constructed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Current projects in this category include Joker: Folie à Deux and The Batman: Part II.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
