David Corenswet Becomes Jon Kent To Replace Henry Cavill’s Superman In New Image

There's a reason his initials are DC!

David Corenswet, star of The Politician and Netflix’s new movie Look Both Ways, suits up as Jon Kent to replace Henry Cavill’s Superman for DC Films in a new concept design.

Much like the Man of Steel himself, Superman’s future is up in the air right now. With Warner Bros. under new management and DC Films undergoing an overhaul, it is not clear if Henry Cavill will be returning to play the superhero or if the company will take the last son of Krypton in a new direction.

A new image sees David Corenswet taking up the mantle from Henry Cavill, not as Clark Kent, but as his son and Superman of the future, Jon Kent.

A concept design shared by artist “savagecomics” on Instagram shows David Corenswet, who can currently be seen in new Netflix film Look Both Ways, sporting the iconic Superman emblem as he takes to the skies as Henry Cavill’s successor.

The DC comic event Future State established Jon Kent as the new Superman, replacing his father Clark as Earth’s greatest protector. With DC Films now looking to move in a new direction, perhaps there is now room to introduce new characters such as Jon Kent’s Superman.

Recently, it was revealed that The CW’s Superman and Lois would be recasting the series’ own version of Jon Kent following the exit of actor Jordan Elsass. This iteration of the character was notably different from his comic book depiction, not having inherited his father’s superpowers.

Recently, rumors were swirling that DC were on the verge of announcing Henry Cavill’s return as Superman at San Diego Comic-Con. Unfortunately, however, this never came to pass, meaning questions over Henry Cavill’s potential return and Superman’s cinematic future remain. If DC is looking to recast the role, David Corenswet certainly looks the part.

Superman was last seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Here is the synopsis:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Both versions of Justice League are available on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the future of Superman and the DCEU, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
