David Corenswet Superman DC Comics

David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman is earning high praise from those closest to the production, including his stunt double, Justin Howell.

During a recent chat with Be More Super (via ComicBookMovie.com), Justin Howell, who serves as David Corenswet’s stunt double in the new DC Universe movie Superman, shared insights from the set. Howell spoke highly of Corenswet, describing him as “down to earth and just a sweet guy.” He was enthusiastic about Corenswet’s performance, noting, “He embodies the character so well.”

With extensive experience in action-heavy roles, including doubling for Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Love and Thunder and portraying Master Chief in Halo, Howell offered some details about the Superman suit. He commented on its functionality, revealing that “It is the most mobile of any of the other suits I’ve worn.” Howell went on to describe his involvement as Superman’s stunt double as the “mountain top” of his career, calling it “a very, very cool experience.”

Howell also touched on the direction of the upcoming Superman film under DC Studios co-head James Gunn, mentioning, “The things James [Gunn] is doing with it are very interesting.” He framed the movie as “the start of a new era,” signaling a significant reboot within the DC Universe, despite the return of multiple actors from Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe.

Since Superman kicked off its production in February, James Gunn has been actively sharing updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses with fans via social media. On February 29, Gunn celebrated the start of filming with a post that not only confirmed the beginning of production but also unveiled the final title of the film, explicitly stating that “Legacy” would no longer serve as its subtitle.
