DC’s ‘Green Lantern’ Series Still On Track For HBO Max Release

The Lantern Corps are still headed to HBO Max!

As various DC film and television projects continue to face cancellation, Berlanti Productions’ Green Lantern series for HBO Max is reportedly still moving forward.

Green Lantern was announced in 2019, at the same time as the now-canceled Strange Adventures series. Despite Strange Adventures never making it past the development stage, progress is apparently still being made on Green Lantern.

The series will mark the first time the character has headlined a live-action adaptation since 2011’s much maligned Green Lantern movie, which starred Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan.

Multiple Lanterns Coming To HBO Max

The Green Lantern series is set to focus on multiple Green Lanterns including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott.

A report from THR reveals sources close to the project have said progress is still being made on the series, which is yet to receive a release date. It is the most expensive series ever to be produced by Berlanti Productions, the company that previously spearheaded The CW’s “Arrowverse” DC shows.

Greg Berlanti of Berlanti Productions previously co-wrote 2011’s big-screen Green Lantern. Warner Bros. Discovery will be hoping the new series performs significantly better with audiences than the movie, which has been considered one of DC’s biggest flops.

The Strange Adventures series that was announced alongside Green Lantern was reportedly quietly scrapped ahead of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger and has not been dropped as part of the DC cull that has affected projects like Batgirl.

Here is the official logline for HBO Max’s Green Lantern:

From DC and HBO Max and Berlanti Productions comes a bold adaptation of the iconic comic book franchise: A saga spanning decades and galaxies. GREEN LANTERN will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott—Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man—and many more. The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro and Killowog, as well as introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.

The series stars Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott and Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner. The first two episodes will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger.
