The DC Universe has found its Superman in David Corenswet and its Lois Lane in Rachel Brosnahan. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has commented on their casting, calling them incredible actors and amazing people.
The last 24 hours have been a frantic time to be a DC Universe fan. Twitter has exploded with love and hate for David Corenswet replacing Henry Cavill as Superman and insiders have raved about Rachel Brosnahan’s audition as Lois Lane. Superman: Legacy director James Gunn has tossed his own comments into the pool, calling them “not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people”.
The recasting of such an iconic role in Superman was bound to stir some controversy. However, the positive words by James Gunn seem to echo in the general reactions to David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan landing the roles of Lois and Clark. It seems as though this incarnation of Superman in the DC Universe is set to fly high!
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
