Jason Momoa is taking over the DC Universe! New details about his role have emerged online as the director of Deadpool 2 has revealed his desire to make a Lobo solo film.

The internet has been on fire over the past 24 hours following the announcement that Jason Momoa would be making his grand return to the DC Universe as the Main Man himself: Lobo. While it has been revealed that the character will have his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, fans have still been left wondering if the beloved Bastich might have a role in any other upcoming projects.

Yet it seems the question isn’t what other films he might appear in, but rather when he’ll be getting his own film. Off the heels of Jason Momoa announcing that he’d been cast in the role of Lobo, Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train director David Leith expressed his interest in making a solo film for the character set in the new DC Universe. While this is far from confirmation that a project is in the works, it does show that some big names are interested in taking a swing for the relatively unknown bounty hunter as he makes his silver screen debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

What Role Will Lobo Play In Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow?

Even though there’s already a director lining up to give Lobo a solo film, it seems Jason Momoa won’t be having as big of a role as many fans hoped in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. According to the folks at ComicBookMovie.com, Lobo will have more than just a cameo in the upcoming film, despite not appearing in the original comic. This was supported through an interview from Tom King, the book’s original writer and one of the architects of the new DC Universe, gave last year revealing his first pitch for the comic.

“That book began as me pitching a Lobo/Supergirl book,” King told WorldBalloon back in 2023. “And it was my editor[s], Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, who were like ‘No, take Lobo out and make Supergirl the Rooster Cogburn character’ And so it wouldn’t exist without Jamie and Brittany.”

The comparison to Rooster Cogburn traces itself back to a 1975 John Wayne movie of the same name. The film follows a trigger-happy former sheriff hunting down a gang of bandits, with his daughter tagging along for the ride. This suggests that, at one point in time, the Girl of Steel’s role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow might’ve been slightly more in the category of supporting character. It’s unclear how much of this original vision will be adapted to the DC Universe, especially given Jason Momoa isn’t set to be the titular hero as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to release on June 26, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
