Is Joe Manganiello coming back as Deathstroke? The rumor mill suggests that James Gunn has different plans for the character in his DC Universe reboot.
Ever since it was announced that a Bane and Deathstroke team-up film would be coming to the DC Universe, one question has been on everyone’s mind: Who will James Gunn cast to play Slade Wilson? While the director has made it clear he wants to start (mostly) fresh with this reboot, many consider Joe Manganiello’s tenure as the character so short in the old universe that he could be used as essentially a new actor.
Sadly, it seems Joe Manganiello just doesn’t fit into James Gunn’s plans. According to a rumor by scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is looking for a new actor to play Deathstroke in the upcoming movie, with Manganiello “100% not coming back” to the role. While this may be disappointing to some fans, it does keep the character’s role in the new DC Universe from being attached to such a disastrous film like 2017’s Justice League.
Who Will Play Deathstroke In The DC Universe?
While Joe Manganiello has been by far the most popular actor floated to play Deathstroke in the reboot, that doesn’t mean fans don’t have other ideas about who James Gunn could cast. This includes the usual big faces when discussing any DC Universe casting, such as Keanu Reeves, Jensen Ackles, and Tom Hardy.
However, one choice that has almost as much traction as Joe Manganiello is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The Game of Thrones alum has a long history in sword-based action thanks to his role as Jaime Lanister. In addition, he’s already appeared in James Gunn’s DC Universe thanks to a small cameo in The Flash, meaning his agents have some sort of connection that can land him the role of Deathstroke the Terminator.
