Deadpool 3 is set to be the glorious reunion between Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. However, it may not be all sunshine and rainbows, with the film’s director Shawn Levy confirming Reynolds’ desire to “lose” in the film.
Despite recent release date setbacks, Deadpool 3 is still set to be one of the biggest blockbusters of all times with the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the Ryan Reynolds-led threequel. The film’s director Shawn Levy recently sat down to discuss this clash of the titans and how they’ll avoid the whole film being punching matches with no winner. According to Levy, Reynolds is very vocal about wanting Deadpool to lose if it makes a good story:
“Here’s the truth,” Levy spoke on The Jess Cagle Show. “Ryan and Hugh, and the reason they’re close friends of mine is, they’re both extremely grounded, generous people and I will say one of the great luxuries for me on [Deadpool 3] is that both of them: they love each others’ jam.”
“Hugh is such a fan of Ryan’s and Ryan knows the opportunity that it is to have Wolverine co-star in a Deadpool movie. Both guys are always trying to set up the other to win and I’ll say this, because Ryan also was my fellow writer on this movie and is my fellow producer on this movie at every turn, Ryan is amazing at wanting Deadpool to lose.”
It’s certainly refreshing to hear Ryan Reynolds is happy to let his character lose in Deadpool 3, especially given revelations in recent years that certain actors have clauses in their contracts that prevent them from losing. It truly seems this film will be a love letter to both the Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Hopefully the strike ends sooner than later so the team can get back to work!
