‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ Editor Reveals Insane Cost Of Hugh Jackman’s Classic Suit

Hugh Jackman's suit breaks the bank!

Was Hugh Jackman’s suit made of money!? One of the editors for Deadpool and Wolverine reveals the shocking price tag of a single costume.

If Deadpool and Wolverine could be described in a single world, it would be spectacle. The project was filled with jaw-dropping moments worthy of the $200 million budget. Fans could almost see the money on screen, with Hugh Jackman’s new suit being considered by most one of the greatest to ever hit the silver screen, though some fans mock the suit for being slightly overdesigned.

Yet the one thing every fan could agree on was that Hugh Jackman’s brown and tan suit, which served as a reference to the classic John Byrne costume, was near-perfection. The one complaint was that Deadpool and Wolverine didn’t feature even more variants of everyone’s favorite alcoholic anti-hero. However, it seems there may have been a very good reason the montage was so restricted.

The True Cost Of Hugh Jackman’s Suit

The editors of Deadpool and Wolverine, Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid, recently sat down with Josh Wilding for an interview about the project. During the chat, Zimmerman revealed that the reason only a handful of variants were shown in the montage was because of budgetary reasons. Using the Hugh Jackman’s John Byrne suit as an example, the costume apparently cost $100,000!

“One of our storyboard artists was a huge comic book fan and he gave us a list of, like, ten of them. There was also, and maybe no on really likes to hear this, time and budget issues you have to deal with as well. Here’s a perfect example: the brown and tan, we spent around $100,000 building that suit. They’re expensive. To build this kind of stuff…we have to get a little economical with what we could actually come up with and do.”

“So, yeah, ‘Hugh, can you take your shirt off be bolted to a cross?’ ‘Yeah, I can do that, no problem.’ ‘Great, let’s get a bunch of pink skulls, throw ‘em down there, and light it in the way of the comic book.’ ‘Can you be an old man?’ ‘Sure!’ They were all thought out but also done with budget in mind and also time. We didn’t have much time.”

“Once we resumed shooting, our deadline on this movie was so tight. When we went back to photography in London, we did have a finite amount of time and even coming up with all those ideas, once we got back, we were like, ‘Hey everyone, we’re going to do this’ and everyone’s heads are exploding. How are we going to do this in the time we have left?”

While the price tag may be mind-blowing to some, it makes sense when you consider the economics of a film like Deadpool and Wolverine. Weeks, if not months, of manpower are put into creating a single costume for an actor like Hugh Jackman. And for a film with the pedigree of Marvel Studios, the costume department is at the top of their field, and would have a paycheck reflecting their talent.
