Could Kang have been the true big bad in Deadpool and Wolverine? A new rumor reveals a scrapped connection to the MCU’s controversial storyline.
Deadpool and Wolverine was an insanely fun romp across the MCU’s multiverse. Which is why many fans were left scratching their heads as to why Kang wasn’t even hinted at in the film. Given he was set to be the multiverse saga’s big bad, many thought he’d at least get a shout out.
It seems Kang was planned to be mentioned in Deadpool and Wolverine. At least, in the film’s early stages. According to a rumor by insider DanielRPK, the project was meant to connect to the MCU’s ongoing multiverse storyline by way of the TVA collecting anchor beings to showdown against the Council of Kangs, an idea only hinted at in the final film.
How Marvel Pivoted Away From Kang
Deadpool and Wolverine wasn’t the only project to distance itself from Kang this past week. It was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Avengers: Kang Dynasty would be renamed to Avengers: Doomsday. In a seperate statement, DanielRPK explained that the MCU was originally trying to find a new actor for the villain before ultimately deciding to go with Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
“I mentioned Marvel found a ‘replacement for Kang’ not for Majors,” DanielRPK explained. “They had been searching for a new actor for a while but chose to go with Doom and [Downey] instead. They’ve been considering this idea since May.”
It’s a shame that the MCU’s Kang storyline was stopped so abruptly in its tracks by the actions of one actor. While it likely didn’t effect Deadpool and Wolverine as much, if this rumor is true, it seems the multiverse saga will be taking a much different turn than originally planned. Hopefully it works out in Marvel’s favor, and not the ever-strengthening DC!
