Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld believes that Hugh Jackman will return to the role of Wolverine despite the actor’s assurance that he won’t.
Arguably the most iconic superhero actor besides Robert Downey Jr., it’s hard to imagine anyone else occupying the role of Wolverine besides Hugh Jackman. Jackman officially bowed out of the role with 2017’s Logan, which was the perfect gut-wrenching, heartfelt tribute to both the character and the actor. With Kevin Feige now hard at work trying to integrate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all eyes have pointed towards who will be playing the nextWnext When asked who should replace Jackman as Wolverine in an interview with Inverse, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld said that he’s “stuck” on the actor portraying the character.
Rob Liefeld is of the mindset no one can play Wolverine except Hugh Jackman. The Deadpool creator even mentioned that he only created the Merc with a Mouth to get a shot at penning a Wolverine project.
“I’m stuck on Hugh Jackman. Having met Hugh, having loved Hugh, there is only Deadpool because of Wolverine… I was doing Deadpool [in the comics] to get to Wolverine. Wolverine was always the goal. I can’t answer the question on Wolverine, I’m stuck on Hugh Jackman. I hope to God he comes back, I do. He’s been seriously firm that he’s not going to be Wolverine, and I foolishly don’t believe him.”
Like the rest of us, the Deadpool creator is hopeful that Hugh Jackman will go back on his word and return to the iconic role of Wolverine. Jackman inhabited the role of Wolverine for nearly two decades and has become synonymous with the Canadian mutant. At the moment, there’s still some ways to go before Wolverine is integrated into the MCU, so there’s plenty of time for Jackman to change his mind, making Rob Liefeld and the rest of us happy.
