Rob Liefeld Says Marvel’s Kevin Feige Has ‘Zero’ Plans For ‘Deadpool 3’

Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld claims that Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige currently has zero plans for a third film in Ryan Reynolds’ hit franchise.

Ever since Fox was purchased by Disney, Deadpool fans have been anxiously waiting for the Merc with a Mouth’s third cinematic foray. Earlier this week, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds even discussed how the character has an infinite amount of possibilities under Disney’s Marvel. However, according to Rob Liefeld, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has zero plans for a third film featuring the iconic character.

In an interview with Inverse, Rob Liefeld frankly discussed how the future of Deadpool 3 and the X-Force film by Drew Goddard was bleak when asked what he knew about them.

“I don’t know. Here’s what people don’t want to hear, but thank God I’m a realist. I feel like Deadpool, the movies, they’ve set sail. We got two brilliant movies, and we live in a culture that always looks forward because all they’re ever selling us is ‘next, next, next.’ It’s the fever. For me, as the fever calms down, people just need to calm down and realize that Deadpool 1 and 2 were released within two years of each other, 2016 and 2018, and I just can’t… I’m not really that crazy about Marvel’s plan right now.”

Rob Liefeld continued by discussing how he isn’t particularly impressed by Marvel and Kevin Feige’s upcoming slate, while also commenting on Tom Holland’s exit from Marvel, a situation that remedied quickly.

“It’s the first time I go, ‘Hey, Feige, did you even have a plan? Your plan was Eternals and Shang-Chi? That was your plan? And Black Widow?’ So they close the door, Chris Evans says goodbye, Robert Downey Jr. says goodbye, Black Widow falls off a cliff says goodbye, they almost lose [Spider-Man actor] Tom Holland to Sony… but you’re a genius, Marvel, you’re a genius.”

Rob Liefeld’s frustration with Marvel’s film division is palpable and seems consistent considering he also recently blamed the studio for a lack of Deadpool films just yesterday. If the third Deadpool film were to begin production this year, Liefeld still isn’t optimistic about the film coming out soon.

“It would come out in four years. I can’t be excited about that…You want to know the plan with Deadpool right now? They have a goose egg, zero, zero.”

It is odd that Marvel hasn’t capitalized on the Deadpool franchise as of yet considering both films in the franchise have been surefire hits. However, once the coronavirus anxieties temper, we can expect more Marvel news to dominate the airwaves as it once did and hopefully we’ll know what’s next for Deadpool!
