Denzel Washington is finally joining the MCU! The legendary actor’s role in Black Panther 3 has finally been addressed by a longtime Marvel producer.
One of the most shocking pieces of news about the MCU didn’t come from a Marvel press release or even Comic-Con, but the promotion of Gladiator II. During the press tour for the project, legendary action star action star Denzel Washington let it slip that Ryan Coogler was writing a role for him in Black Panther 3, setting the fandom and the internet on fire.
No details were revealed about Denzel Washington’s role in the film, especially given how early it is in development. However, a recent rumor seems to suggest that the star may be joining the MCU as a villain. Given how high of a profile Washington has, it’s likely Marvel wouldn’t cough up the money for his appearance unless he was being eyed as the main antagonist of Black Panther 3.
Who Is Denzel Washington Playing In Black Panther 3?
Denzel Washington’s role in Black Panther 3 was brought up to Nate Moore, who is a longtime producer for the MCU and an executive at Marvel Studios. While Moore played coy in an attempt to preserve the surprise for fans, he did confirm that they would draw on the comic book canon if Washington ever gets cast in the project.
“If that manifests, which we’re gonna try, I think it will probably be somebody from canon,” Moore explained to ScreenRant. “Who that is, is early days. We honestly haven’t had really substantive creative conversations with Ryan, mostly because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which is gonna come out this year and is gonna be great. So again it’s too early to say, but obviously if an actor of the caliber of Denzel Washington wants in, we’re gonna figure out a way to make that happen.”
Marvel fans have been fancasting Denzel Washington in the MCU for years, so there’s certainly no shortage of characters he could play in Black Panther 3. Though given the script is still in development, nothing is 100% certain regarding his role. Hopefully, as Sinners wraps up post-production to release in two months, more news begins to break on the project.
