Legendary film, TV and theater actress Diana Rigg passed away aged 82 according to the Game of Thrones and James Bond star’s agent.
Game of Thrones and James Bond star Diana Rigg passed away early in the morning of September 10 at home surrounded by her family according to the actress’ agent. Most recently, Rigg was best known for playing Olenna Tyrell of House Tyrell, also known as the Queen of Thorns in HBO’s Game of Thrones and often co-starred with Natalie Dormer. The star was nominated at the Emmys for her role on the show in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
But while most younger fans will recognize the Game of Thrones actress as the Tyrell matriarch, Diana Rigg also appeared in the British TV series The Avengers, in which she played superspy Emma Peel alongside Patrick Macnee from 1965 to 1968. She even played the only woman James Bond ever married back in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Service, before being killed off by Blofeld’s henchmen. The actress had been diagnosed with cancer back in March this year. Diana Rigg’s agent issued a brief statement, noting the family’s wish for privacy.
“She died peacefully early this morning. She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time.”
Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Liam Cunningham as Ser Davos Seaworth, Carice van Houten as Melisandre, Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Conleth Hill as Varys, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Jerome Flynn as Bronn, Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont, and Hannah Murray as Gilly. The series was run by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss across all eight seasons.
