Did Margot Robbie Confirm Her End As Harley Quinn In James Gunn’s DC Universe Reboot?

Margot Robbie made waves as Harley Quinn. However, could her time as the Harlequin of Hate be over thanks to James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot?

For as many problems there were with the old DC Universe, Margot Robbie was far from one of them, with her portrayal of Harley Quinn being the best part of multiple movies (including James Gunn’s own The Suicide Squad!). When asked if her time as Harley Quinn was over thanks to Lady Gaga taking up the mantle in Joker: Folie à Deux, Robbie admitted that she always wanted the character to be passed down to other actresses.

“I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. That was always the dream for her,” Robbie explained in a recent profile by Variety. “Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”

Interestingly, Margot Robbie seems to go out of her way to not confirm or deny her return as Harley Quinn in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Given the question is about Lady Gaga’s portrayal in Joker: Folie à Deux, it’s possible for everything she said to be true while still portraying the character. Whether or not she returns in the reboot, though, is yet to be seen.

What can audiences expect from the Joker sequel?

After the first film ended with Arthur Fleck in Arkham State Hospital, it’s likely that – as in previous iterations – Harleen Quinzel will start out as the Joker’s psychiatrist. Plot details are being kept under wraps but a significant chunk of the sequel is expected to take place within Arkham.

Todd Phillips is directing Joker: Folie à Deux from a script he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver, who also worked on the original. The cast of Folie à Deux also features Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey.

The first Joker movie is currently available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the sequel and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
