Diego Luna Confirms ‘Andor’ Will Be His Final ‘Star Wars’ Appearance

All good things must come to an end.

Diego Luna Andor Star Wars

Andor star Diego Luna has confirmed that the upcoming Disney Plus series will be the last time he portrays the Star Wars character.

Way back in 2016, Diego Luna entered the Star Wars Universe in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as Cassian Andor. One of the film’s key supporting characters, Andor would go on to help the film’s main protagonist Jyn Erso steal the plans to the Death Star, leading directly into Star Wars: A New Hope. Sadly he, Jyn, and the rest of the film’s main cast did not survive the events of the film. As it turned out, however, Disney and Lucasfilm were not quite done with the character.

The End Of The Road For Diego Luna As Cassian Andor

In 2018, it was revealed that Diego Luna would reprise the role of Cassian Andor for a new Disney Plus prequel series. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Diego Luna discussed the prospect of appearing in more Star Wars projects as the character. The actor was quick to shoot down this idea, citing that he had been involved in 24 episodes as the character between its two seasons and that it was enough for him:

“For me, this is it. It’s a beautiful journey now that I have 24 episodes, 24 shorter films, to tell the story of where Cassian comes from and how he got to be the man we met in Rogue One.”

Here is the synopsis for Andor:

“The “Andor” series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.”

Andor stars Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly. Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Stephen Schiff, and Beau Willimon served as the writers of the Star Wars series, while Toby Haynes, Susanna White, and Benjamin Caron directed the episodes.

Andor will premiere Disney Plus on September 21, 2022, with three episodes. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
