Disney+ Announces ‘The Mandalorian’ Documentary For ‘Star Wars’ Day

Disney Plus confirm that a documentary taking fans behind-the-scenes of The Mandalorian is set to arrive on May 4, Star Wars day.

A new documentary giving fans a look being-the-scenes of The Mandalorian will arrive on May 4, Star Wars day. Disney Plus recently announced the eight-part documentary series, explaining that it will look at George Lucas’ legacy, the new characters that fans have fallen in love with and the work that’s gone into creating some of the practical effects seen on the show.

“the filmmaking process, the legacy of George Lucas’ Star Wars, how the cast brought the characters to life, the series’ groundbreaking technology, the artistry behind the show’s practical models, effects, and creatures, plus the creative influences, the iconic score, and connections to Star Wars characters and props from across the galaxy.”

It sounds like the series will look at the new technology the crew used to shoot the galactic landscapes seen in the series as well as the practical effects that went into creating characters like Baby Yoda and IG-11.  When discussing The Mandalorian documentary, executive producer of the Star Wars series Jon Favreau said that he’s excited for fans to see the show from a different perspective and seeing how talented the crew behind the camera are.

Here is the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The Star Wars series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.

Dave Filoni directed the first episode of The Mandalorian and additional episodes of the Star Wars series were helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.
