Disney is reportedly pleased with the script for the new Planet of the Apes film and is setting out to find a lead for the upcoming movie.
Back in 2019, Disney completed its acquisition of 20th Century Fox which brought with it a number of popular intellectual properties. This included, but was not limited to, the Fox-owned Marvel movie rights, Planet Of The Apes, and Alien. After the deal was finalized, it was made clear that the studio intended to continue the Apes and Alien franchise. Both of which were sadly delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
As time went on, Disney began to slowly make progress on the next Planet of the Apes installment. Maze Runner director Wes Ball was brought on to helm the project. A draft for the project was being finalized in March with the hopes of going into production either by late summer or early fall. Now it appears that the script has the approval of the Disney bosses.
According to Deadline senior film reporter Justin Kroll, the people in charge of 20th Century and Disney were very high on the script for the upcoming Planet of the Apes film. It was also mentioned that they would soon be looking for the movie’s lead and are hoping that it will lead to a full trilogy of films:
Currently, there is very little known about the upcoming Planet of The Apes project. It remains unclear if the upcoming film will be a full reboot of the franchise, a continuation of the War for the Planet of the Apes story, or some kind of combination of the two. Disney is also developing a new Alien television show and a feature film for Hulu.
Here is the synopsis for the last film in the franchise, War for the Planet of the Apes:
