Honest Trailers have released their take on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Marvel movie doesn’t come out well against rival Multiverse movie Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.

The Doctor Strange sequel was generally a hit with Marvel fans, though some felt disappointed in a few areas, not least of which was the film’s failure to deliver the Multiverse of its title. Ultimately, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange only visits two universes besides the MCU’s primary reality.

The Honest Trailer for the film calls out its lack of Multiversal exploration and draws a comparison to Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, which dealt with a similar subject matter and was released around the same time as Multiverse of Madness.

The Multiverse Of Mothers

The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Honest Trailer points out that both the Marvel movie and Everything, Everywhere, All at Once feature “a young woman traveling the Multiverse to find their mother” and see “people learn to project themselves into their alternate timeline selves,” but gives the A24 movie a much firmer recommendation.

The trailer also points out that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is “outworked by his own cape” in the movie, referencing the scene in which the Cloak of Levitation flies on its own to America Chavez’s aid, perhaps proving that not all capes wear heroes.

Questions are also raised over the film’s handling of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters, who are quickly killed off ahead of their proper MCU debut. Check out the new Honest Trailer below:

It was strange to see two Multiverse movies with so many similar plot points come out around the same time. However, while Everything, Everywhere, All at Once may have proved the bigger hit with audiences – and shown more of its Multiverse – Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness still delivered some huge moments for the MCU and proved popular with Marvel fans.

Here is the synopsis for Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness:

The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the Marvel film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, and Patrick Stewart.
