Dwayne Johnson has publically rejected Vin Diesel’s invite to star in Fast and Furious 10.
Family no more? Last month, Vin Diesel publically extended an invitation to Dwayne Johnson to star in Fast and Furious 10. Johnson first appeared in Fast Five and eventually received his own spin-off with Jason Statham’s character titled Hobbs and Shaw. After a behind-the-scenes feud with Diesel, Johnson stepped away from the ninth entry in the franchise, which hit cinemas earlier this year.
Vin Diesel’s Instagram post from last month saw the Fast and Furious star publically acknowledging his feud with Dwayne Johnson but insisting that it should all be water under the bridge. Diesel then mentioned that his kids refer to Johnson and “Uncle Dwayne” and that it’s time to fulfill Paul Walker’s wishes by wrapping up the Fast and Furious saga as a family.
Dwayne Johnson didn’t immediately comment on the Instagram post when it first hit social media. Many speculated that Johnson and Diesel spoke behind the scenes after the post, but now the Black Adam star has finally spoken on the invite. In a chat with CNN, Johnson adamantly made it clear that there’s “no chance” he’s going to return for Fast and Furious 10.
“I was very surprised by Vin’s recent post. This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly – and privately – that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. I privately spoke with my partners at Universal as well, all of whom were very supportive as they understand the problem.
“Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding. “
Yikes. Seeing as Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson already spoke privately, and the brass over at Universal were aware and supportive of the Red Notice star’s decision, it seems awkward on Diesel’s part to put his former co-star on blast. While it’s dissapointing that Johnson won’t return to wrap up the franchise, it seems like it might be for the best.
