Early reactions to Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick are in and the film appears to have blown critics away.

The original Top Gun was released all the way back in 1986 and was one of the films that helped cement Tom Cruise as a major Hollywood star. For many years a sequel was in some form of development. Eventually, the project went into production under Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski from a script by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and frequent Tom Cruise collaborator Christopher McQuarrie.

Like many films, Top Gun: Maverick was delayed numerous times due in part to technical complications and also because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The final delay for the film was announced back in September of last year which appears to be the final time it will be delayed. Earlier today, critics at CinemaCon were able to see Top Gun: Maverick and have nothing but positive things to say about the Tom Cruise film.

You can see the reactions below:

Here is the official synopsis for Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.” Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.
