Daredevil fans have been eagerly awaiting Echo to see their titular hero face off with Maya Lopez agains the Kingpin. New details suggest Daredevil might have a smaller role in the Marvel Spotlight series than many may have expected.
Echo has always been a character separated from Daredevil at birth, with Maya Lopez making her debut in his comics and having close ties to both the character and their shared adversary: Kingpin. This led many to assume Daredevil would have a large role in the Marvel Spotlight series. However, it seems as though Daredevil will have a relatively small role in the show, only serving to establish Kingpin in the MCU, with the main focus being squarely on the titular hero:
While it’s certainly a shame we won’t be seeing too much of Daredevil anytime soon, it’s a relief that Echo will stand on its own as a Marvel Spotlight series rather than trying to rely on connections to the broader MCU. With Maya Lopez now alone against Kingpin, the stakes are also higher than ever before.
Where Echo lies within the MCU
Echo is set to debut early next year on Disney Plus, with every episode of the show releasing at once. This makes it the first MCU project on Disney Plus to follow the Netflix binge model of releasing all of the episodes on the same day.
Alaqua Cox’s Hawkeye spinoff series will be the tenth overall original Marvel Studios series for Disney Plus, and is one of two other live-action spinoffs from previous series that also includes the WandaVision spin-off, Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Serving as executive producers on Echo are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre, and Jason Gavin, while Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King, and Jennifer Booth will serve as co-executive producers.
