The fate of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch was left ambiguous at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, leaving many fans hopeful that she would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those hopes have now been shot by Olsen, who confirms she likely won’t be back as Scarlet Witch, at least not anytime soon.
In a film industry so full of secrets and NDAs, it’s hard for fans to take actors at face value when they say anything about a potential role, especially when it comes to comic book franchises. Elizabeth Olsen has previously been cautiously optimistic about her return as the Scarlet Witch, which led many fans to speculate that a deal was already in place. It was only during a recent interview that Olsen finally said directly that there are currently no plans for her to return as Wanda Maximoff:
“No, so my no-twist zone is, yes, I hope so, but I have no idea.” Olsen told the TODAY show. “When I say that, it’s not because I have a loaded answer. It’s because I say, ‘Yes, I hope so,’ and I mean it at face value.”
Elizabetn Olsen would go on to specify that there’s “no contract” for her Marvel return. While this may come as a disappointing update to many fans, Olsen is by no means out of work. The interview was for her upcoming Love and Death miniseries on HBO Max which, much like Wandavision, features a couple in a small town with a dark secret. While it’s no Agatha: Coven of Chaos, it may be enough to keep fans of Olsen’s work satisfied until her seemingly inevitable return to the world of Marvel.
