Is Wanda returning to the MCU?

Elizabeth Olsen could be returning to the MCU as Wanda Maximoff, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has suggested.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Wanda corrupted by the Darkhold. Having adopted the moniker of the Scarlet Witch following the events of WandaVision, in which her true power was revealed, Wanda embarked upon a quest to claim another universe’s version of her lost children.

Ultimately, the film saw Wanda realize the error of her ways and she destroyed the secrets of the Darkhold in a moment of self sacrifice, leaving her fate ambiguous.

Will Wanda Maximoff Return To The MCU?

Speaking to Empire, Michael Waldron hinted that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda may be coming back to the MCU after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The final scenes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Wanda destroying Mount Wundagore, burying herself under the rubble. However, death is rarely permanent in a comic book movie, especially when there’s no body in sight.

Speaking about Elizabeth Olsen’s potential MCU future as Wanda Maximoff, Michael Waldron said “She’s removing herself from the board… For now? Forever? We’ll see. I’d like to see her again…”

Given Wanda’s power and the ambiguity around her ultimate fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it seems unlikely Marvel will be leaving the Scarlet Witch dead. While it is not yet clear when or how she may return, there’s a good chance Wanda will be reuniting with her fellow MCU heroes in time for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
