Emma Stone speaks out!

Does Emma Stone regret being in The Amazing Spider-Man? The Gwen Stacy actress reveals the one part of the duology that she truly disliked.

The Amazing Spider-Man movies were a mess. Creatively, commercially, critically. They were created and cancelled in the wake of competing interests both inside and outside of Sony Pictures. However, for as many issues as the films had, fans can all agree that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone both gave generation defining performances as Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy, in no small part due to their chemistry with one another.

Yet it seems as though even Emma Stone’s time on The Amazing Spider-Man wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. The actress recently reflected on her experience as Gwen Stacy in an interview with Vogue. Stone remarked that the one thing she could never truly get behind with the franchise was the press tours, adding that she doesn’t know how other superhero stars do them.

“I will say the press tours for these films…I don’t know how people do it. I remember it being nine countries in two weeks. You’re functioning in a state of jet lag previously unknown to you. I felt truly psychotic the entire time. I’m half dead.”

Does Emma Stone Regret The Amazing Spider-Man?

Though while Emma Stone’s time with the franchise wasn’t all great, it wasn’t all horrible either. In the same interview, the actress reveals she looks back fondly at her time playing Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man. No small part of this is the friends she made along the way, specifically citing Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb.

“I really loved doing ‘Spider-Man’. I loved everybody I worked with. I met Andrew [Garfield] there. I met Sally Field. Marc Webb was wonderful. It was a really special time in my life. That’s a recurring theme: The people more than the film itself is what sticks with me for so long. I only have fond memories of this experience.”

Filmmaking is a long, hard, and complicated process. Especially superhero films, which are known for their crunch and controversial development periods. So it’s good that, even in spite of all that, Emma Stone enjoyed her time as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man. Perhaps those good vibes mean that she might be open to reprising her role in the future!

The Amazing Spider-Man franchise is now streaming on Disney Plus and Hulu. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
