Ethan Peck, who plays Spock in Star Trek: Discovery, has revealed he was almost cast as Marvel Studios’ Captain America before the role went to Chris Evans.
Ethan Peck has played a young Spock in both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but he recently revealed he almost appeared in some very different franchises. The actor revealed he was in the running for a role on Amazon’s The Boys and came close to the role of Captain America in the MCU.
Marvel fans have long speculated over who else might have been considered for the role of Steve Rogers before Chris Evans was cast and Ethan Peck has now confirmed he was one of a small group considered by Marvel.
Ethan Peck As Marvel’s First Avenger
The Star Trek: Discovery actor revealed he had auditioned for Marvel’s Captain America role during a recent appearance at Atlanta’s DragonCon.
During his DragonCon appearance, Ethan Peck spoke about his memorable past audition experiences, touching on the good and the bad. He singled out almost becoming Captain America as one of those memorable moments, alongside getting close to the role of The Deep in The Boys.
Peck said of his past audition experiences:
“I’ve had a lot of bad ones and some good ones, I guess. But some memorable ones, I was of a smaller few [group of actors] to be considered for Captain America many years ago, which stands out. And also, I came pretty close to the role of The Deep in The Boys…
“I have a recurring dream – this is the worst audition – where I am reading for Spielberg or someone of that caliber. It’s happened a few times. I get the callback, and I’m like ready to go, I’ve signed [up]. And I’m one person away from getting called in, and I’m like, ‘I don’t know my lines.’ And that’s a true terror for me.”
Obviously, Chris Evans went on to secure the role of Captain America and few fans could argue with Marvel’s casting choice. Meanwhile, the role of The Deep in The Boys went to Chace Crawford.
Missing out on those roles doesn’t seem to have done Ethan Peck any harm, as the actor is now playing one of the most iconic Star Trek characters of all time.
