Four years after Disney acquired the X-Men rights from 20th Century Fox, there’s finally some exciting news for mutant fans!

According to a report by Deadline, Marvel Studios is gearing up to hold writer meetings later this fall to explore pitches for its highly anticipated X-Men movie.

The report also highlights that while it will take some time before the X-Men hit the big screen, Marvel Studios’ kickoff of live-action film development is sure to excite fans who have been eagerly awaiting a new installment since Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its extensive film catalog in 2019.

This news follows the conclusion of a five-month writer’s strike, with the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) securing a new three-year deal. However, this deal still needs to be ratified by the union’s 11,500 members.

As of now, the X-Men movie doesn’t have an official release date, and Marvel is taking its time in carefully selecting a writer for the upcoming reboot. Stay tuned for an announcement on this matter, likely in early 2024, according to the Deadline report.

The X-Men franchise was one of the most popular and financially successful Marvel properties under Fox’s control. It included seven films and a Wolverine spinoff franchise with three additional entries. However, the disappointment of Simon Kinberg’s atrocious Dark Phoenix in 2019 made it absolutely clear that the X-Men universe needed a fresh start.

Regarding Wolverine, Hollywood trade reports indicate that the actor’s union is scheduled to meet with AMPTP next week, aiming to reach an agreement similar to the writers’ and directors’ unions. This development is expected to pave the way for production to resume on the eagerly awaited Deadpool 3, which had halted midway due to the ongoing strikes.

With Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, besides X-men, Deadpool, and the upcoming Fantastic Four, these beloved Marvel franchises now fall under the jurisdiction of Marvel Studios, opening up exciting possibilities for their integration into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This development has generated significant anticipation among fans eager to see how these characters and storylines will be incorporated into the ever-expanding MCU.
