Is it closer than expected?

News about the Fantastic Four reboot for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been sparse even before the Hollywood strikes. However, a new report suggests that filming for Marvel’s first family may begin sooner than fans may have thought.

Despite being announced nearly three years ago, Marvel fans have almost no details about the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Rumors have been aplenty about who would be cast as characters like Sue Storm and The Thing, but broad consensus has painted the MCU film as having a troubled production. However, a new report by Heroic Hollywood owner Umberto Gonzalez suggests lenses are already being tested for shooting.

While it may just be Marvel was working on what they could for the project during the Hollywood strikes, testing something like lenses suggests that the Fantastic Four reboot may be closer to starting production than fans realize. It’s unclear if the MCU film will keep its May 2025 release date due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, but it’s likely it won’t be delayed too far if it doesn’t.

The Fantastic Four characters were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, with the team making its first comic book appearance in 1961. The previous Fantastic Four movies, while popular, were not well-received by fans or critics, and Marvel Studios has an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past and deliver a feature that is true to the spirit of the comics.

What we know about the Fantastic Four movie

The Fantastic Four reboot is expected to be a fresh take on the classic Marvel characters, with a new cast. Matt Shakman is directing the movie from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. It is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.

John Krasinski played the Earth-838 variant of Reed Richards in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his future as the character is currently in doubt. Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt has said that she’s hopeful we’ll see the actor back as Richards for Fantastic Four.

Fantastic Four opens on May 2, 2025.  Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
