Paramount Rebooting John Travolta & Nicolas Cage’s ‘Face/Off’

Face Off John Travolta Nicolas Cage

Paramount Pictures plans to reboot the 1997 John Woo action film, Face Off, which originally starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.

Deadline reports that screenwriter Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox and Sonic the Hedgehog) has been tapped to write the Face Off script. Fast & Furious producer Neal Moritz will serve as a producer on the film and David Permut (Hacksaw Ridge) will serve as an Executive Producer.

The original Face Off followed John Travolta as Sean Archer, an FBI agent and Nicolas Cage as Castor Troy, a freelance terrorist. Both John Travolta and Nicolas Cage’s characters take on each other’s physical appearances in the film.

Face Off had a budget of $80 million and grossed $245.7 million worldwide, making it the 11th highest-grossing film of 1997. Both performances from John Travolta and Nicolas Cage received praise, and Face Off received an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Editing but lost to James Cameron’s Titanic.

Given that this is a reboot, it is likely that two new actors will be playing similar roles that John Travolta and Nicolas Cage played in the original. This reboot also entails Paramount’s intentions on bringing back much of its own established IP’s. When compared to other major studios, Paramount has struggled in its prominence given their own IP’s such as Star Trek have not achieved the behemoth type of successes that studios such as Disney, Universal and Warner Bros. have with their respective franchises.

Are you excited about Paramount Pictures rebooting Face Off? Who do you hope steps into the director’s chair in the meantime? Also, what actors do you expect to see step into the roles made famous by John Travolta and Nicolas Cage? Perhaps they can even switch it up and make this new version with two women instead.
