Fantastic Beasts star Johnny Depp has joined Instagram to spread positivity amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Despite his legal troubles and recent cinematic blunders, it’s almost inappropriate to deny Johnny Depp’s work ethic and legendary output. The Fantastic Beasts star has appeared in numerous hit franchises such as Pirates of the Caribbean, 21 Jump Street, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and most recently the Harry Potter prequel series Fantastic Beasts. Depp has provided much entertainment to fans around the world through film and television for nearly four decades and now he’s attempting to spread some positive vibes straight to our smartphones during the coronavirus outbreak.

Johnny Depp, who until recently wasn’t on any social media platforms, joined Instagram with the goal to help inspire folks during the coronavirus outbreak. The Fantastic Beasts star posted a photo of him in what looks like a post-apocalyptic bunker or cave of sorts surrounded by a medley of lit candles. It’s certainly creepy, but he followed the jarring image with an eight minute long video that preached how people must come together and fight boredom and anxiety together during the time of coronavirus.

The Fantastic Beasts star then followed up his lengthy introduction video with a song he created with Jeff Beck about overcoming adversity during these trying times. Regardless of what you think about Johnny Depp, his message of making people smile is quite resonant and positive in a time where the news cycle has become increasingly nihilistic. Depp will next be seen in the third Fantastic Beasts film, which had its production recently halted due to the coronavirus.

Here is the official synopsis for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald:

At the end of the first film, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise wizards and witches up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

Directed by David Yates from a script written by J. K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Fantastic Beasts 3 is dated for November 12, 2021.
