‘Fantastic Four’ Star Michael Chiklis On How The MCU Reboot Can Succeed

They can't get any worse right?

The Thing Fantastic Four Michael Chiklis

Former Fantastic Four star Michael Chiklis has opened up on how he thinks the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot can succeed.

The Fantastic Four films have never had the best time in live-action. The first attempt was a film made by B Movie legend Roger Corman in order to settle a rights dispute and was reportedly never intended to be released. The second time around came in the form of the mid-2000s Fantastic Four films. Neither film was particularly well-received but the first managed to earn enough money to justify a sequel.

Several years later, Fox took another shot with the Fantastic Four franchise with the Josh Trank-directed film. The end result was a poorly received film that bombed at the box office and was more notable for its behind-the-scenes drama than anything else. And at least one of the stars from the mid-2000s films doesn’t want to see it happen that way again.

If there is one thing most people agree on with the mid-2000s films it’s that Michael Chiklis’ performance as Ben Grimm aka The Thing was one of the film’s best features. While speaking to Screen Rant, the actor opened up about what he thinks it will take for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe’s reboot to succeed. Specifically, Michael Chiklis thinks that the film can’t be too serious and should not try The Dark Knight route:

“Go CGI if you can [laughs]. Wardrobe was something else, but it was still a pretty amazing experience. Just understand, the real tone and tenor of The Fantastic Four is as we did it. It’s not meant to be dark and brooding. It’s never going to be The Dark Knight. Don’t try to make it that. Don’t expect it to be that. The Ever-Lovin’ Blue-Eyed Thing was from Brooklyn and he was a Dodgers fan. They were a sweet family and that’s the way it’s meant to be. It wasn’t meant to be hardcore and dark and brooding. Try to make it that, you will fail.”

Here is the synopsis for the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot:

A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Directed by Josh Trank, 2015’s Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, and Tim Blake Nelson.

The film is available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more additional video content.
