The actor remains vague but doesn't mince words.

Fantastic Four star Toby Kebbell has opened up about his experience on the 2015 reboot and blames the film’s failure on bad leadership.

It’s been nearly seven years since the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot was released in theaters. To call the film a failure would be an understatement as it was destroyed by critics and flopped hard at the box office. Since its release, there has been plenty of finger-pointing to go around with many citing Fox’s leadership as a cause and Josh Trank’s ineffective directing.

Since then the majority of the cast members have moved on. Michale B. Jordan has become a successful movie star thanks to roles in films like Creed and Black Panther and Miles Teller’s career hasn’t slowed down much either. But for some, Fantastic Four remains a black spot on their resume that they just cannot quite escape from.

While speaking for Forbes, Fantastic Four star Toby Kebbell opened up about what he felt went wrong with the film. In the movie, Kebbell played Doctor Doom and served as the movie’s final antagonist. During the interview, he cited the film’s leadership as the reason behind the Fantastic Four‘s failure but remained vague about who exactly was to blame:

“You know, I’ll be entirely honest… I don’t think we were a victim of timing, I think we were a victim of bad leadership and organization. I actually thought people in charge —— I mean in charge, in charge, not people creating and working on set —— I think there were opportunities, there were conversations had, there were script differences, there was like, ‘Hey, you know, Simon [Kinberg], this is actually factually true, this is important information…’ He’s like, ‘No, no, no. That’s not what this is.’

So there were unfortunate things. In Hollywood, you can’t ever speak ill and I’m not doing that, I’m just saying while I was there, there was a lot more that could have been done to make that a better thing. There’s fans for it. I truly believe it. I think Doom… I love the Joker, I love so many bad guys, my performance as Koba (Planet of the Apes), there are bad guys that live in my heart … So I truly believe Doom is an awesome villain, he’s an excellent villain and they kind of always just do something goofy with it. It’s a shame, it’s a shame. I honestly feel that way. I wouldn’t have gone into it thinking, ‘Ah, this is going to be another terrible movie.’ I thought they had that.”

Here is the synopsis for the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot:
