The final trailer for The Marvels has been released. New footage from the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel reveals that a key Thor character is set to make their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There’s been a lot of chatter in recent weeks that a character from the Thor franchise would cross paths with Captain Marvel in The Marvels. After countless hints in prior teasers, it’s finally been revealed that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is set to make her return in the upcoming MCU sequel. The newest trailer shows the ruler of Asgard giving Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers some words of encouragement to stand with her fellow heroes. The full trailer can be seen below.
Tessa Thompson has quickly become a favorite among fans of the Thor franchise. Following the mixed reception of Thor: Love and Thunder, it’s certainly a treat to see Valkyrie living on in the MCU. While some fans speculated that Valkyrie would serve as a love interest to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel in The Marvels, it seems she’s simply serving as a mentor in the film, which shows a lot of growth for the character since the days of Ragnarok.
The talent behind The Marvels
The Marvels is set to be a groundbreaking film in many ways. Not only does it feature three powerful female superheroes, but it also has a female director, Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the horror flick Candyman. The movie features a cast that includes Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.
“She has a really calm vibe, too,” Iman Vellani said about DaCosta. “These movies are not easy to make at all. There’s like a million, bajillion little moving pieces. She and [executive producer] Mary [Livanos] did such a great job to keep morale high. Even if there were days where they wanted to rip people’s heads off, they would never show it and never put their stress on anyone else.”
In addition to directing The Marvels, Nia DaCosta also co-wrote the script alongside Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. During an interview, DaCosta described the movie as being “full comic book madness,” teasing what audiences can expect from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
