Will the Iron Fist ever make his return in the MCU? Finn Jones speaks out on having another shot at his most iconic (and most controversial) role.
Many consider Iron Fist to be the beginning of the end of the MCU’s Netflix era. While the other shows had their issues, Iron Fist was the first to be considered truly bad. Much of the blame given by fans was laid at the feet of Finn Jones, who played the titular Danny Rand. While Jones would improve as the character whenever he’d return outside of the series, his show would main a stain on the Defenders universe until the day it ended.
However, it seems as though Finn Jones is seeking redemption. With many Netflix heroes officially making their return in the MCU, Jones has thrown his hat in the ring to play Iron Fist once more. The actor seems entirely aware of the controversial reputation around his character. Despite this, he’s ready and willing to prove people wrong if he ever gets the phone call.
“I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it,” Jones told La Conve Monterrey (via ComicBookMovie.com). “My response to that is ‘give me a f*cking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready, and I wanna prove people wrong.”
Will Finn Jones Return As Iron Fist?
Given Mike Colter and Krysten Ritter both wanted to return to their iconic roles alongside Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, it would only make sense to toss in Finn Jones’ Iron Fist, if only for the sake of completion. It likely wouldn’t cost much to bring him into the MCU for an episode or two, and would serve as a rewarding victory lap to the franchise’s Netflix era.
That being said, all signs point to Marvel preparing to introduce a new version of the Iron Fist into the MCU, specifically based on the Lin Lei incarnation of the character. If it’s true, the studio may hold off on letting Finn Jones return as the character in order to not cause confusion with the audiences. Though given how much confusion there were with the original Netflix shows, it likely wouldn’t be too big of an issue!
