First ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Poster Reveals Official Look At Karl Urban As Johnny Cage In The Sequel

Johnny Cage looks perfect!

Karl Urban Johnny Cage Mortal Kombat

Will Karl Urban kill it as Johnny Cage? The newest poster for Mortal Kombat II gives fans their first look at the actor as the beloved Ninja Mime himself!

It’s been just over a year since Mortal Kombat II wrapped filming. Since then, there’s been mostly radio silence on the project as it preps to release in Fall of this year. This has left longtime fans to speculate about what they do know about the movie. Namely, how characters like Shao Kahn and Johnny Cage will play into a franchise so heavily divergent from the original games.

Johnny Cage in particular has been a strong fascination for the fandom. When it was first announced that Karl Urban would be taking on the beloved role in Mortal Kombat II, reactions from fans were mixed. Some thought that the actor would nail the over the top violence the project necessitates due to his history on The Boys. Others thought that the New Zealand star wouldn’t be able to capture the playboy energy the character is infamous for.

First Look At Karl Urban As Johnny Cage

Yet as Warner Bros. Discovery gears up to promote the highly-anticipated sequel, the first poster for the project has finally made its way online. The image shows off Karl Urban as Johnny Cage in a style similar to 80s action movies, the genre most heavily associated with Cage’s career in the Mortal Kombat series. While this doesn’t give much insight into the role he’ll play in Mortal Kombat II, it does reveal that his vibe will at least remain intact.

This also technically isn’t the only poster Mortal Kombat fans got today. While not as exciting as a first look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, series creator Ed Boon shared a second poster on his personal social media. This one shows off the new logo that will be used for Mortal Kombat II, along with a rather cheeky correction to the franchise’s infamous spelling consistencies.

Mortal Kombat II is set to release October 24, 2025. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the Mortal Kombat series and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
