A new featurette from Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye expands on Florence Pugh’s Black Widow returning for the upcoming season finale.

The last time we saw Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova was during the post-credits scene of Black Widow, which saw her getting hired to assassinate the man who “killed” her brother: Clint Barton a.k.a Hawkeye. The Black Widow largely remained in the shadows until the fourth episode of the series, which saw her battling Clint Barton and (briefly) Kate Bishop on a rooftop.

It wasn’t until the fifth episode where she formally revealed her identity as Natasha Romanoff’s sister to Kate Bishop in a hilarious dinner scene at the archer’s apartment. At the end of the episode, the Black Widow revealed to Bishop that her mother, Eleanor, and a key Marvel villain were responsible for putting the hit on Hawkeye. Yikes.

As the series is set to come to a close tomorrow, Marvel Studios has released a brand new featurette that puts the focus on Florence Pugh’s nefarious Black Widow. In the featurette, Pugh expressed her excitement when she found out that her return as Belova would see her beefing with her late sister’s best friend.

“When there were early discussions of if Yelena was going to come back, I did not see it coming that they were going to put me and Clint against each other. I think [it’s] a really good twist.”

After Kate Bishop star Hailee Steinfeld and some of the show’s directors chatted it up about Yelena Belova’s impact on the show, Florence Pugh chimed in by discussing how great it was to share the screen with Black Widow herself Scarlett Johansson and then immediately star alongside her former screen partner Jeremy Renner. The featurette ended with Pugh reminiscing on how great her start in the Marvel Studios system has been.

“It’s been a really good first two years in the MCU.”

Here is the synopsis for Hawkeye:

Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, Fra Free, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh also returned in her Black Widow role.

The first five episodes of Hawkeye are now available to stream on Disney Plus, with new episodes dropping on Wednesdays. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the Jeremy Renner series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
