However, it seems fans may be seeing Rick Flag Sr. in live-action sooner than they expected. A new post by Frank Grillo on Instagram reveals the actor is headed to Atlanta, which is near where James Gunn will be shooting Superman in the coming weeks. While it’s far from confirmation, it may be fans’ first hints of a truly connected DC Universe.

Frank Grillo is officially set to make his DC Universe debut as Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, an animated series developed by James Gunn for Max. The character is the father of Rick Flag, a character best known through Joel Kinnaman’s role in the Suicide Squad franchise.
However, it seems Rick Flag Sr. won’t be confined to Creature Commandos. The actor revealed that he’s in the DC Universe for the long haul, teasing plans with James Gunn and Peter Safran that he wasn’t able to reveal. Could this be a tease that he’ll be playing a small role in Superman?
Given James Gunn wrote both Superman and Creature Commandos, it wouldn’t be out of the question for cast members like Frank Grillo to crossover. Especially with Gunn trying to establish a new DC Universe, it could be helpful to have connections like Rick Flag Sr. for audiences to latch onto.
