It looks like the DC Universe tailors are already hard at work! Isabela Merced has teased her Hawkgirl costume for James Gunn’s Superman movie.

Fans have been keeping a curious eye on Isabela Merced ever since she was cast as Hawkgirl in Superman. With Hawkgirl having so many different incarnations in the DC Universe, the internet has been awash with speculation about which version of the character Merced will play. It seems the actress has let the first details about her DC role slip, revealing she has already tried on the helmet for her Hawkgirl costume.

“I did my fittings, and I tried on the Hawkgirl helmet. The paint job is impeccable.” Merced told Variety during a recent Red Carpet interview for Madame Web. “And I hope they finalized it. I don’t know. You never know with James Gunn. He could always change his mind last minute, and we would respect him for that.”

Fans likely won’t have to wait long to see Isabela Merced in action as Hawkgirl. DC Studios co-head James Gunn started filming the first scenes of Superman in Norway, with the production now returning to the United States. Recent set photos offered fans a first look at Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, a member of the DC Comics team The Authority.

What to expect from James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot

Superman is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world. The choice to focus on the early years of his career is a bold move that could potentially breathe new life into the character and appeal to a younger generation of fans.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Superman is currently scheduled to open in theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
