‘Madame Web’ Director Explains Why There’s No Post-Credits Scene

The end of Madame Web?

Madame Web recently swung its way into theaters. Here’s why Sony Pictures’ latest Spider-Man spin-off lacks the iconic Marvel post-credits scene.

Ever since Iron Man, Marvel movies have been known for including a post-credits scene tease for the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or in the case of Madame Web, the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters). However, it seems Madame Web is bucking that trend, lacking any sort of tease for what’s to come next for the Spider-Man-related heroes. According to director S.J. Clarkson, it’s because the Sony production said everything it needed to say.

“Yeah, it was about telling a great story,” Clarkson told The Hollywood Reporter. “My father always used to say, ‘If you have to say something, stand up, speak up and then shut up.’ So when I got to the end credits, I felt that we’d said everything we needed to say in the film. It’s up to whatever is next to take on the button.”

While S.J. Clarkson certainly said everything she needed to say with Madame Web, Marvel fans don’t agree the story that was told was all too great, with Sony Pictures’ latest attempt at a Spider-Man spin-off without Spider-Man getting scores almost as bad as Morbius. It may in fact be a blessing in disguise the film doesn’t have a post-credits scene that will never come to pass.

Who else is attached to the Madame Web movie?

Madame Web is an upcoming superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, who made her first appearance in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #210. The movie is being directed by S.J. Clarkson, a British television director who has previously worked on episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Defenders.

The Madame Web movie is expected to explore the origin story of the titular character and her first journey in the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. Its cast also includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Adam Scott and Zosia Mamet.

Madame Web is currently slated to hit theaters on February 14, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
