Is Gal Gadot’s time in the DC Universe officially over? The Wonder Woman star reflects on her long journey as the Princess of Themyscira, and a potential future with the project’s director.
Gal Gadot has had a rather interesting career over the past decade. While the actress had starred in major franchises before, such as her role in the Fast and Furious series, it was her role as Wonder Woman in the DC Universe that catapulted her to stardom. The actress has become the face of the modern female action hero, starring in at least one high-profile project a year. And with her role as the Evil Queen in Snow White on the horizon, her fame has seemingly been cemented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The actress reflected on her long journey to this moment with Variety. As expected, a non-insignificant part of the interview involved Gal Gadot reflecting on landing the role of Wonder Woman in the DC Universe. In doing so, she credits Zack Snyder with crafting the initial story for the character, while also reminiscing about the time she spent with director Patty Jenkins during the production of the film.
“Zack Snyder really had the vision for Wonder Woman. To do the solo Wonder Woman movie with a partner like Patty Jenkins was life-changing. I think we both felt like we were just a vessel to tell a story that is much bigger than us, that the world was ready for – a complete, empowered woman who is strong and at the same time vulnerable.”
Gal Gadot To Reunite With Wonder Woman Director
For as historic as Gal Gadot’s role as Wonder Woman was, it seems her time in the DC Universe has come to an end, as the role will be recast for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe reboot. However, that doesn’t mean the creative team behind the character is going anywhere. When speaking about Gadot’s journey, director Patty Jenkins teased that a reunion between the two of them may be on the horizon.
“There are so many great actors and performers around, but a top-tier, classic movie star who can light up a screen, be your hero, your lover, your friend and your avatar on screen are few and far between, Gal is one of them. There is much, much more [for us to do.] We are just getting started.”
There’s no word on what this potential collaboration between Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins could be, as the filmmaker departed their Cleopatra movie back in December 2021. The only publicly known project from Jenkins is her Rogue Squadron film for Star Wars, which has reportedly been put back into development after a years-long hiatus.
