Kit Harington has shared his thoughts on the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon.

Earlier this year, HBO premiered the first season of its Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, based on the fantasy novel Fire & Blood by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Game of Thrones star Kit Harington opened up about the new series, which has so far received positive reviews from audiences.

“You know, I’ve fallen off a bit – not because I’m not enjoying it – but just been very busy. But I’m gonna catch up,” Kit Harington told THR. “I’m sort of halfway through the season. I need to watch the second half, so I’m gonna try and avoid any kind of spoilers. I mean, it’s great. They’ve done a brilliant job with it. I’m really impressed with that show and how they’ve continued it.”

The season one finale of House of the Dragon, titled “The Black Queen,” brought in 9.3 million viewers upon its premiere on HBO, the biggest finale viewership for the network since the final episode of Game of Thrones in 2019. The episode was leaked two days before its official premiere on HBO and aired at the same time as Sunday Night Football and Major League Baseball.

When does House of the Dragon return to HBO?

A second season of House of the Dragon is currently in development at HBO. The second season begins filming early next year and won’t arrive until 2024 at the earliest, according to recent comments from Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max.

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows House Targaryen – the noble house of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen from Thrones – as a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons breaks out between claimants to the Iron Throne.

Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J. Condal served as co-showrunners on House of the Dragon season one. They also executive produced the season alongside George R. R. Martin. The series features a star-studded cast that includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno.
