George Clooney made a shocking appearance as Batman in the final scene of The Flash. Is it possible the actor will return as the Caped Crusader in a future DC Universe film?
There was a time when The Flash was hyped up as being the start of a brand-new DC Universe. Of course, after the movie came out and flopped, it seemingly set up nothing for the upcoming DCU reboot by James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, many still wonder if George Clooney could be the new Batman for the upcoming The Brave and The Bold movie. When asked, Clooney provided an update that will disappoint fans of his Bruce Wayne.
“Oh yeah. Somehow there were not a lot of requests for me to reprise my role as Batman,” Clooney joked in a recent red carpet interview with The Hollywood Reporter for his newest film The Boys in The Boat. “I don’t know why.”
While it seems an obvious choice that George Clooney wouldn’t be playing Batman in the new DC Universe, it’s a shame he’ll never get a chance to prove his abilities as the Caped Crusader in the same way Michael Keaton did in The Flash. However, given the current multiverse trend, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Clooney appear in some DC projects down the line.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
