George Miller Has Written Another Prequel Centered On ‘Mad Max’

Another prequel?

George Miller Mad Max

Mad Max director George Miller has revealed that he has written another prequel film that focuses on the titular character.

Back in 2015, the Mad Max franchise returned to theaters in a big way with Mad Max: Fury Road. The film was a financial success and a big hit with critics, holding a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It would go on to be nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won 6. Unfortunately, various studio politics kept a follow-up from being made until relatively recently.

As it turned out, the film that director George Miller wanted to make was a Mad Max prequel that focused on the origins of Fury Road co-lead, Furiosa. Production for the film began in the summer but still has a long way to go before it is finished. This film, however, isn’t the only prequel that Miller wants to make.

Another Prequel?

In a recent interview with The AV Club, Geroge Miller revealed that he had written another prequel set in the Mad Max universe. This second prequel would focus on Max Rockatansky roughly a year before the events of Fury Road:

“We also wrote, not a screenplay, but almost in novel form, Nico Lathouris and I, what happened to Max in that year before, and that’s something that we’ll look at further down the track later. But in telling each other the story of Furiosa, everything in Fury Road had to be explained. In my mind, I have a back story of the Doof Warrior, who plays the guitar. How could a blind man who all he can do is play a guitar, how does he get to survive in a wasteland where everybody is in extremis? How did he come to be there? So we wrote little stories for every character when we made Fury Road.”

Here is the synopsis for the next film in the Mad Max franchise, Furiosa:

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

Furiosa is currently set to hit theaters on May 24, 2024. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the Mad Max franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
