Dan Akyroyd, one of the stars and writers of the original Ghostbusters film confirms that much of the original cast will return for Ghostbusters 2020.
While appearing on The Greg Hill Show, Dan Akyroyd confirmed that he and a few other members of the original cast of Ghostbusters finished filming for Ghostbusters 2020, which is directed by Academy Award-nominee Jason Reitman; the son of the original film’s director Ivan Reitman, whom serves as a producer on the film.
During this recent interview, Dan Akyroyd described his experience working on Ghostbusters 2020 comparing it favorably to the original films from 1984 and 1989:
“Jason Reitman wrote a beautiful, heartfelt script that takes the real DNA from the first two movies and transfers that directly to the third, the next generation. It hands the legacy off to a new generation of stars, and players, and actors, and characters.”
Ghostbusters 2020 will be a direct sequel to the original films and will ignore the events of Paul Feig’s reboot from 2016, which received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike and underperformed at the box office.
Dan Akyroyd and much of the surviving cast of the original films (with the exception of Rick Moranis) each had cameos in the 2016 reboot.
